Who Says They Can’t!
How Sports Help Disabled Kids Rebound
Jothy Rosenberg was diagnosed with cancer and had his right leg amputated at age 16 and, when the cancer spread to his lung, his left lung removed. He was told he had zero chance of survival. That was 52 years ago. He rebuilt his shredded self-esteem through sports, including skiing, biking, open water swimming, and more.
Now, the Who Says I Can’t Foundation he formed in 2014 helps kids who become disabled rebuild their self-esteem by enabling them to participate in a sport they love and were previously excluded from due to the lack of appropriate (and expensive) adaptive equipment.
In his talk, adapted from his 2016 TEDx talk, he will show video of his accomplishments and those of five other young people who likewise more than just recovered—they thrived and excelled—going even beyond what their able-bodied compatriots could achieve. Bring tissues—you will be inspired and even motivated but it will be an emotional journey.
